New York, New York
New York Yankees -163 / New York Mets +153 O/U: 9
The New York Mets and the New York Yankees will meet for game one of their crosstown doubleheader in MLB action Tuesday.
This game was originally scheduled for Monday evening but was pushed back due to weather.
The Mets are fresh off a weekend set versus the Rockies. New York fell Friday 5-1 then got a win Saturday 5-3. On Sunday in the finale, the Mets managed a 6-1 win.
For the Monday game, the Mets will be sending out Zack Wheeler in the start. Wheeler is 5-3 with a 4.61 ERA and 93 strikeouts this year.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re coming out of a weekend series against the Indians. New York fell 5-2 Friday and 8-4 Saturday, then on Sunday the Yankees blew a 5-0 lead (and a 6-5 lead in the ninth) but managed to eke out a 7-6 win in 10 innings.
Taking the hill for the Yankees on Monday will be Masahiro Tanaka, whose start was pushed back from Sunday due to a brief paternity leave. Tanaka is 3-5 with a 3.42 ERA this year.
The Mets are 6-1 in their last seven Tuesday games and 4-1 in their last five overall. The Mets are also 4-0 in Wheeler’s last four starts and 7-3 in his last 10 interleague starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 4-0 in their last four Monday games and 42-18 in the last 60 in game one of a series. New York is 7-2 in Tanaka’s last nine Monday starts and 7-3 in his last 10 in game one of a series.
Wheeler has gone at least seven innings with three or four earned in each of his last four starts, and he’s been pretty steady overall.
As for Tanaka, he’s been fairly reliable with at least 6.0 innings in each of his last six starts, but he’s also given up eight earned on 15 hits over his last two starts in 12.0 innings—and is 0-2 in that time.
I like Tanaka and the Yankees should have a good shot at this one if he can get another 6.0 innings with limited damage. That said, this isn’t a bad spot to value-pick the Mets against a shaky Yankees squad.
