Detroit Tigers -140 / Miami Marlins +130 O/U: 8.5
The Miami Marlins and the Detroit Tigers will finish up their MLB series on Thursday from Comerica Park.
The Marlins took game one of this set 5-4 on Tuesday, then in the Wednesday matchup Miami surged in the sixth, seventh and eighth for a 6-3 win.
Miami will be sending out Trevor Richards in the game Thursday. Across his 48.2 innings and 1-5 mark this year, Richards has a 4.44 ERA with 44 Ks and 26 BBs.
Miami logged 11 hits in the Wednesday victory, and two of those belonged to Neil Walker. Walker finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, a double and a run.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re going with Matthew Boyd on Thursday. Across his 60.2 innings and 4-4 record thus far, Boyd has a 3.41 ERA with 73 Ks and 13 BBs.
The Tigers logged 10 hits in the Wednesday loss, but couldn’t get much on the scoreboard. Christin Stewart led Detroit with his three hits and one RBI.
The Marlins are 20-43 in their last 63 in game three of a series and 5-16 in Richards’ last 21 starts. Miami is 1-9 in Richards’ last 10 starts on grass and 0-9 in his last nine starts.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 1-4 in their last five Thursday games and 14-5 in Boyd’s last 19 home starts. Detroit is 5-1 in Boyd’s last six Thursday starts and 2-5 in his last seven interleague starts.
Richards posted a quality start in his last outing versus the Mets at home, with 6.1 innings and three earned in an eventual 8-6 Marlins victory. Prior to that however, he’d given up nine earned across three starts in 13.1 innings.
As for Boyd, he’s surrendered seven earned in 10.1 innings over his last two starts—which were both losses—but had a string of seven quality starts before that.
I like Boyd a little better here so I’m going Tigers, but it’s really not a game I want to put down on.
