The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox meet Thursday in MLB action at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The Toronto Blue Jays could use a win after losing 10 of their last 13 games. The Blue Jays have allowed 12 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 10 of their last 14 games. The Toronto Blue Jays have lost their last 10 games when allowing four or more runs. Freddy Galvis leads the Blue Jays with 42 hits and 16 RBI while Randal Grichuk and Rowdy Tellez have combined for 69 hits and 37 RBI. Marcus Stroman gets the ball, and he is 1-6 with a 3.12 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season. Stroman is 2-4 with a 5.28 ERA and 32 strikeouts in his career against the White Sox.
The Chicago White Sox could use a win after splitting their last 10 games. The White Sox have scored 10 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in eight of their last 12 games. The Chicago White Sox have lost 10 of their last 11 games when scoring three or less runs. Tim Anderson leads the White Sox with 48 hits and 24 RBI while Yoan Moncada and Jose Abreu have combined for 90 hits and 64 RBI. Dylan Covey gets the ball, and he is 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA and five strikeouts this season. This will be Covey’s second career game against the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays are 7-19 in their last 26 Thursday games, 1-4 in Stroman’s last 5 road starts and 2-9 in Stroman’s last 11 starts. The White Sox are 21-45 in their last 66 games following an off day, 0-8 in Covey’s last 8 home starts and 6-23 in Covey’s last 29 starts. The Blue Jays are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Chicago and 2-6 in Stroman’s last 8 starts vs. White Sox. The under is 4-1-2 in Covey’s last 7 starts overall. The under is 7-3 in Stroman’s last 10 starts overall.
Covey hasn’t been good through 10.2 innings, so there’s reason why the White Sox are an underdog here at home. With that said, the Toronto Blue Jays have been absolutely awful these last few weeks and shouldn’t be favored against anybody in their current form. Stroman has also allowed 12 earned runs in his last three starts and has allowed three or more earned runs in four of his last seven starts. The Blue Jays have lost seven of Stroman’s nine starts. I’m not trying to get behind either of these teams, but if forced to pick, give me the White Sox at home and the plus money. Laying juice with the Blue Jays doesn’t seen smart.
