The Line: Oakland Athletics -125 / Texas Rangers +105 — Over/Under: 11
The Oakland Athletics look for another victory to build on their four-game winning streak. The Athletics have scored 26 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in each of their last six games. The Oakland Athletics have won eight of their last 10 games when scoring four or more runs. Marcus Semien leads the Athletics with 22 hits and eight RBI while Matt Chapman and Khris Davis have combined for 37 hits and 30 RBI. Marco Estrada gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 4.87 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. Estrada is 3-1 with a 3.40 ERA and 35 strikeouts in his career against the Rangers.
The Texas Rangers need a win here after losing five of their last six games. The Rangers have allowed 15 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last nine games. The Texas Rangers have lost five straight games won allowing more than two runs. Offensively, Elvis Andrus leads the Rangers with 21 hits and 10 RBI while Shin-Soo Choo and Nomar Mazara have combined for 22 hits and 14 RBI. Adrian Sampson gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 1.86 ERA and five strikeouts this season. This will be Sampson’s second career game against the Athletics.
The Athletics are 14-4 in their last 18 Saturday games, 23-8 in their last 31 during game 2 of a series and 0-4 in Estrada’s last 4 starts. The Rangers are 3-7 in their last 10 Saturday games, 4-10 in their last 14 vs. American League West and 0-4 in Sampson’s last 4 starts. The Athletics are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Texas and 21-8 in the last 29 meetings. The over is 7-3 in Rangers last 10 home games. The over is 12-3-1 in Athletics last 16 road games.
Estrada has really struggled these past three seasons and the start of this year hasn’t been any different, giving up five homers in 20.1 innings. Sampson hasn’t been much better in the first 37.1 innings of his big league career, allowing 40 hits and 17 earned runs while walking nine batters to nine strikeouts. The difference is we’re getting the much better team in the Oakland Athletics at a fairly cheap price, and a squad that’s more than capable of picking up a bad inning here and there with an explosive offense.
